Road Out of Hell

Storylines

Storylines are a combinations of words and pictures arranged in a specific order so that their full meaning can be digested. It is true that a picture is worth a 1,000 words. When you add back the words that formed a picture, you make a story. And when you add a time line and ordered structure to a story you create knowledge.

Stephanie

I met Joyce Pike for the first time on Sunday 3rd April 2016. Pastor Adam had fallen ill and asked me to preach a message on John's account of the resurrection of Jesus. It was a difficult and personal message for me. May the 5th would be two years since my daughter Stephanie died. The day before, saturday, I had attended the memorial service of Ethan McKinney and witnessed his symbolic triump over death from cancer. I explained to the congregation how I seek hope and purpose by praying and visualizing Stephanie with Jesus.

Joyce was in the front listening intently and I could not help seeing that she crying. Afterwards she came and said "I was not crying tears of sadness. I was remembering my son Bob, who died of cancer at age 54, and picturing him with Stephanie and Jesus." We talked for a while sharing the deep sadness that only those who have lost a child really know.

Then she stopped, and looking up said, "I am an artist, would you allow me to paint Stephanie".

Parables

Recovery in Christ ("RinC")
RinC includes principles taken from the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous®, the program practiced by Bill W., Dr. Bob, Clarence S., and the other early rummies as found in the book Alcoholics Anonymous published in April 1939. The language used in the RinC 12 Steps is as originally written by A.A. cofounder Bill W., according to A.A. General Service Conference-approved literature. Our thanks to Dick B. and his son Ken B. for their detailed research into the history of Alcoholics Anonymous® which is available and published at DickB.com.

The Purpose of the Parables (Matthew 13:10-17)
Recovery begins when one person shares their story with another. Joyce and I pray that the stories told by Jesus through His parables, visualized in the context of the 12 steps given to Bill W. late one evening of December 1938, will bring His rest to all who are heavy laden. Invite Jesus into your life, listen to Him, and He promises to give you His peace.
