Road Out of Hell

A.A. Quote
"The minute I stopped arguing, I could begin to see and feel. Right there, Step Two gently and very gradually began to infiltrate my life. I can't say upon what occasion or upon what day I came to believe in a Power greater than myself, but I certainly have that belief now. To acquire it, I had only to stop fighting and practice the rest of A.A.'s program as enthusiastically as I could." TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 27

RinC Reflection
Alcoholics are often described as people with instincts running wild. At the obvious level is the wild, and usually excessive, consumption of alcohol. Unfortunately quitting drinking does not address the underlying symptoms of hyper and/or hypo instincts. Neither does it address the need for our lives to be redirected to God's divine intention for us. But we do get a clear head and the opportunity to invite God back into our lives so that His power can overcome our stinking thinking.

My recovery from alcohol use disorder began when I stopped arguing, with myself, my family, my friends, the doctors, about the nuances of my dysfunctional binge drinking and accepted that I was an alcoholic. My Spiritual recovery came when I stopped arguing with God about who He was and accepted Him as a loving Father, who gave His only Son Jesus to die for my sin, that I might come into His presence, have His Spirit to guide me and His word to direct my steps.

Romans 8:6 ESV The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Psalm 46:1-3 ESV God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
